Have you ever interpreted an image in a completely different way as a friend or family? What might influence such different interpretations? What is Social Semiotics? Who Discovered it? Why is it Important? According to this week’s lecture, social semiotics is the study of signs and symbols as a part of social life. This idea was developed by Michael Halliday, who proposed the idea of social semiotics, which was then further built upon by Gunther Kress. Social semiotics is important as it transcends language barriers and represents ideas and concepts that would be difficult to get across using words only.
